Judaism has always prioritized values such as bikkur cholim (visiting the sick), nichum aveilim (comforting mourners), and gemilut chasadim (acts of kindness), but it can be difficult to know how to actually show up for people we care about when they're struggling - especially in times of such widespread individual and communal loss. What should we say or not say? What are the best ways to support each other through the death of loved ones, break-ups, mental health struggles, recovering from traumatic events, and simply navigating one's life journey?
Join Hillel and Abby Brockman, chaplain at Seattle Children's Hospital, for a session that will explore how we can live out these Jewish values through ideas and practices that can help us make a difference when it matters most. We'll talk through concrete strategies for comforting grieving people and give you tools to think about how grief works while enjoying some soup.
